The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MINADER), the Ministry of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries of Cameroon (MINEPIA), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the UN System, and the Procasur Corporation extend an invitation to participate in the Young Agropastoral Entrepreneurs Summit 2019, in YAOUNDÉ AND OBALA, CAMEROON.

Objectives

Hosted by the Cameroon Youth Agro-pastoral Entrepreneurship Programme (PEA Jeunes), the Summit aims at facilitating a global dialogue and knowledge share with youth and Public-Private sector entities that will contribute to promoting youth entrepreneurship; with the ultimate aim of reducing rural poverty and improving food security and nutrition. The meeting will provide spaces for youth to explore on-farm and off-farm business opportunities that promote decent work and are environmentally friendly. It will do so by

Strengthening youth inclusion and participation in rural development programs and policies development in West and Central Africa;

Identifying viable opportunities and innovative solutions that promote the leadership role of rural youth and the development of entrepreneurial skills;

Strengthening a regional and global network which will group young agro-pastoral entrepreneurs and magnify the impact of their activities..

HOW TO JOIN THE SUMMIT

Young entrepreneurs, public and private organizations and development projects interested in joining the Summit must contact the organizers before January 28, 2019. All individuals and delegations joining the Summit must:

Be a young rural entrepreneurs or advocate for rural youth, or Be working in favor of the rural youth in the government, the private sector, academia or civil society. Be able to pay for their own travels and accommodation (including flights, bus, meals, insurance and visas, and any other expenses not included in the program).

During the Summit, lunch and tea breaks will be provided. Learning materials, participation certificates and the study tour are free of charge. Please note that simultaneous interpretation in French, Spanish and English will be available.

Approach

The Summit will be structured along two main events:

A global dialogue during the first two days that will feature high level interactive panel and group discussions among policy makers, youth leaders, business leaders and civil society organisations. Discussions will focus on thematic areas such as: the public policies to promote youth entrepreneurship and create decent jobs, youth participation in decision-making processes, approaches to youth incubation and socio economic insertion, education and training, access to technologies and innovation, financial services, land and markets, and gender.

A field session during the last two days with selected youth for practical peer-to-peer learning and collaborative capacity building.
